Summer break !?!
School is almost out! My children will be out on Friday. I have mixed feelings about this. Getting up at 6:30 to get the kids ready to be on the bus at 7:25 is getting old, and so is making sure that homework is done, papers are finished, projects are done. Vacation and time with family is fun, but I'm dreading the I'M BORED! that starts about a week into summer break. We've planted a garden and I think the kids are excited about it and we've signed up the son to play t-ball. We're not planning any major "trips" this summer. I'll probably put the kids into swimming lessons, but I need more ideas! What do you do with your kids over summer to keep the I'm BORED's to a minimum?

My kids are just barely getting old enough for this - so I'm excited to try it. My Mom would always say, "Oh!! You're bored! Well that's GREAT, because I have TONS of things you can do if you're bored." She would then proceed to list off many of the chores she was planning to do that day, and a few more that sounded really bad. Come to find out, we usually were able to find our own idea of something to do after that :).
I dread this part of summer too...
I posted a list last year - the beginnings of my kids "list" that hung on the wall... It had hundreds of ideas for things to do at home (crafts, activities, etc...) and I would just point at it when someone said "Mom... what can I do? I'm Bored..."
Ta-dah? Nope, it helped a few times, but more often than not they rolled their eyes at me and thanked me sarcastically for my "help"

Sadly I have no wonderful ideas for you. I plan to run away from home, but I doubt that is practical for you.
Somethings you just have to grin and bear and endure. Dang.
Do what we're doing. Move overseas! Nothing spices up a summer like sorting through every possession, stressing about passports, trying to find a house on another continent... Oh wait, this is all stuff for ME to do. As for the kids, they just get to be bored, I guess! Maybe I'll "request" for them to do some research on trips they'd like to take once we get there? Beats Super Mario Galaxy any day, in my opinion, at least!
